New washer and dryer

After having the laundry room tiled we decided we needed a new washer and dryer. The old washer was on life support, the automatic was gone from the washing experience.

Barbara found a washer-dryer set at Lowe's so we took John to go look at them. They were not that highly rated by Consumer Reports as it turned out, plus with John in tow we couldn't get the attention of any of the salespeople. Sometimes going with John is a plus since salespeople are a little less pushy. Other times it is just annoying.

There was a Conn's nearby so we decided to check them out.

The washer and dryer we looked there are made by LG, a company I had never even heard of until a couple of years ago when we got new cell phones. They were very highly rated, and as a bonus, the salesperson at Conn's was not at all put off by John. Since as a rule John and I are more likely to create laundry rather than wash and dry it, I left Barbara with the salesperson to work out the details. We bought our last set before we moved to Austin 16 years ago, so it was amazing to see the differences in the newer models. With any luck we will be in our 70s before we have to go through this again.

Finished at last

The last part of the floor project was completed this morning. Now all we have to do is to decorate the house and clear out the garage!

More new floors

Was a long day yesterday. After the floor guys ripped up the carpet and the Parkay it was determined that the floors were not level. They did not speak english and I don't speak any spanish, so it was like a very expensive game of Charades.

I got a call from the dispatcher and she explained that they needed to put what looked like cement on the floor to level it out. They did that, waited for it to dry, and finished putting in all the wood by around 10 p.m. last night.

Today they come back to do the finishing stuff and then move the furniture back. It will all be worth it next week when things are back and we finally put the Christmas tree up.
