This has been a year filled with change. James graduated from University of Pittsburgh law school in May and welcomed the birth of their third son the same week. His family moved to Austin in June where he studied for and took the Texas bar exam. In early November, the bar results were released and James was sworn in as an attorney. By the time you read this, he and Emily will have arrived in Idaho Falls where James will spend the next year or two clerking for a judge. Emily has been patiently supporting James through law school and is pleased to be back in her native Idaho. (James and Emily met at BYU-Idaho which is just outside of Idaho Falls.) www.MurdocksAndSons.blogspot.com
With only one semester left, Rachel will graduate from BYU Law School on April 24. She spent the summer as a law clerk for the BYU General Counsel's office. The job wasn't as adventurous as last summer's internship in Australia, but allowed her flexibility to help James' family move from Pittsburgh and still attend Russell's wedding. Rachel is enjoying the reduced stress of her third year of law school, and was able to travel to Austin, New York, and Cedar City (for the Shakespeare Festival) this past semester. www.RachelDownUnder.blogspot.com
Russell graduated from BYU last December and spent the spring substitute teaching at Barbara’s school. On July 7th, he married Sarah Jane Urban in the Houston Temple. They are living in graduate housing at the University of Texas on the shores of newly-named Lady Bird Lake. Sarah Jane had worked as an event planner in Washington, D.C. and was able to find similar employment for the University of Texas Law School coordinating continuing legal education events. Russell is a first year law student at U.T., so they spend their days in the same building when SJ isn’t off on location.
John (21) is a 4th year senior at Westwood High school. After this year, he has one more year before aging out of the public school system. With a new doctor, he has gone off long-time medications and is now much happier, productive, and thinner. To our surprise, John really enjoyed having the three little boys around and was kind, gentle, and willing to share his cache of toys/videogames/DVDs with them.
David and Barbara will greatly miss having Harris (nearly 4), Jack (2 ½), and Baby Will (6½ months) living in Austin. They were a delight to have in our daily lives for the last 6 months. Barbara works as a Learning Specialist at a local middle school. David continues to survive layoffs at BMC Software, working with a team that has been together for over ten years, a real novelty in the software industry.
As we look toward 2008, we recognize our great blessings and count our friends and family high on the list of good things in our lives.
